Flumen (2025 - )

Flumen - Tracing the flow of rivers

Flumen (Latin): a river, stream, flood or flowing current.

Flumen (working title) is a new project exploring rivers as places of movement and connection. Through walking by rivers and swimming, the project follows waterways of Somerset and Devon as they travel through the land. The project extends my ongoing exploration of water, following Tide, my investigation of coastal rhythms and lunar cycles, into freshwater environments. Through photography and alternative photographic processes, I explore the relationship between water, land and time. River Trace (2025), is a cyanotype created along the River Yeo using an old map of the area. Through slow observation and repeated journeys, Flumen reflects on rivers as flowing entities: constantly changing, yet carrying traces of what has passed before.
